Many will probably still remember the wild scenes from Linz on January 9th. At that time, an Iraqi man first stabbed his wife, then drove to the woman’s workplace and threatened a colleague there, seriously wounded two police officers, stole an officer’s assault rifle and was stopped only by police who fired six shots. Now he speaks for the first time and shrugs off any guilt.
After his spectacular arrest, the 41-year-old Iraqi remained staunchly silent, and now, according to the Linz public prosecutor’s office, the alleged shooter has at least briefly commented on his actions for the first time – the ORF reports. He continues to deny any guilt, but wants to answer in court. He did not want to hurt his wife, the 42-year-old Romanian would have fallen on his knife. He also did not want to hurt the two police officers during his escape.
Drank beer and wine before the deed
The car in which he hit the two officers broke up. He certainly did not consciously approach the officials. He only took the long gun from the badly injured police officer to judge himself later. The Iraqi also stated that he was very drunk when he committed the crime. He speaks of drinking a lot of beer and wine before the crime, and there is also talk of drug use.
The investigation will take weeks. A blood analysis has already been ordered and a number of witnesses have to be heard. Further investigations and reports will follow.
