Ski event in “Kitz” – it’s not just on the Streif that things happen

Date:

In Kitzbühel there is a lot to do around the Hahnenkamm race. And not only on, but also off the slopes!

When the best skiers in the world plunge down the infamous Streif this weekend, they will do so in front of tens of thousands of spectators for the first time since the outbreak of the pandemic. If no fans were allowed at all in 2021, the number had to be limited to 1000 a day last year.

This year, however, there is another state of emergency in Gemsstad: 25,000 tickets were sold per day, there is room for 45,000 people in the finish area – this guarantees that children, members of the Kitzbühel Ski Club and sponsors who do not need tickets will also find Place. Ticket prices range from affordable to proud – depending on whether you want to blend in with the crowd or be seen in the stands.

Tryst for high society
For 30 euros you have a pitch on Friday or Sunday, 35 euros on Saturday. It is cheaper for groups of ten people or more, young people under the age of 18 pay only 15 euros on all days. Please note: Tickets are only available in advance this year – not on site!

This also applies to the exclusive grandstand tickets, which cost 350 euros on Saturday. But they are already sold out. Because high society is also in Kitzbühel again this year. 2500 guests are expected at the legendary white sausage party in the Stanglwirt. This year it will take place for the 30th time.

Free train travel
To ensure that the fans arrive in Kitzbühel smoothly, the ÖBB makes the rails glow at the weekend. There will be approximately 340 stops at the “Kitzbühel-Hahnenkamm” station, and all trains on the route will run in double sets. Particularly attractive for fans: the “Hahnenkammexpress” is free! Although trains run every eight to ten minutes during rush hours, ÖBB project manager Markus Moser asks fans “if possible, to use earlier trains, such as the REX at 8:12 from Wörgl, for the journey”.

The weather should hold
There is plenty for those who arrive early: more than 40 sales stands await hungry and thirsty ski fans in the center of Kitzbühel. A total of 1500 people are directly or indirectly involved in making the race weekend a success. Up to 250 people work at the same time on the slopes alone.

Incidentally, the weather should not throw a spanner in the works this year: according to meteorologists from GeoSphere Austria in Innsbruck, the slopes, racers and spectators will largely be spared from fresh snow and wind.
