“Great Pressure” – Parking enforcement counterfeited masses of parking fines

Date:

Because she falsified masses of parking fines, a 36-year-old former parking attendant stood trial in Salzburg on Friday. Her lawyer explained that the woman was under great pressure from employers and the magistrate.

“She was expected to issue enough parking permits – otherwise there would have been unpleasant conversations with the employer,” explains defender Wolfgang Hauptmann. What happened? As an employee of a private security company, his 36-year-old client distributed counterfeit parking tickets in Salzburg from September to December 2021. To increase her quota and avoid unpleasant conversations with her superiors, she used her mobile phone to photograph old photos of illegal parkers from her data acquisition device.

She then re-entered the offenders, who had actually already been punished, as parking offenders in her terminal. The scam came to light because those affected filed a complaint with the criminal justice department. Five people paid for the counterfeit tickets. On December 13, the woman was released after the magistrate reported the inconsistencies to the private security firm.

suspended sentence for abuse of office
“I’m terribly sorry,” protested the suspect in her closing words. The court sentenced her to a year’s suspended prison sentence for abuse of office. Because although she worked for a private company, she performed sovereign duties. The court took into account the confession and the financial situation of the woman in debt when determining the sentence. The trial period is one year. The Public Prosecution Service and the suspect decided not to appeal. The verdict is therefore final.
