Boys in Distress – Lost ski pole prompted rescue operation

Date:

A lost ski pole caused a rescue operation in the Dreiländereck ski area on Sunday. One of the children held on to the tree on the steep terrain. But that was not the only rescue operation. A child was injured while sledding.

A ten-year-old and a fifteen-year-old from the Villach-Land district went looking for a ski pole on Sunday that their father had previously lost from the lift. During the search, the two entered impassable terrain and could not go further or back. One of the children held on to the tree. According to the emergency services, the second managed to climb over a rock and get to safety.

Lift users observed the situation of the two and immediately informed the mountain railways, who then alerted the mountain rescue service. The police helicopter was also deployed. The helicopter’s occupants brought mountain rescuers to the boys, who then led the two to a nearby forest trail. There they were picked up. Fortunately, they were unharmed.

Child bumped his head against barriers
Another rescue operation took place in Mallnitz on Sunday. While tobogganing from the Jamnigalm towards Stockerhütte with his seven-year-old son, the father (39) suddenly lost control of the sled and crashed into a metal barrier. The child hit his head against a bar of the barrier and was injured to an unknown extent. It was taken to the LKH Vilach.
