The suspected 72-year-old gunman has been found dead in his car after causing a massacre that left 10 dead in a Los Angeles suburb. According to the police, suspect Huu Can Tran committed suicide with a gun when a special forces unit surrounded his car.
The act on Saturday night (local time) had caused horror: on the sidelines of a Chinese New Year celebration in Monterey Park, a man had opened fire on revelers. Five men and five women died. Ten others were taken to hospital with injuries, some of them seriously.
People ran out of the bar in panic
According to the police, the perpetrator entered the restaurant at around 10:22 PM (local time, 7:22 AM CEST) and fired a gun in the area. “When officers arrived at the scene, they saw a large number of people, visitors to the property, burst out screaming,” said Andrew Meyer of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office. Brave revelers took guns away from gunmen
Eyewitnesses reported that the gunman was carrying a large amount of ammunition. He eventually turned up at another bar in the neighboring city of Alhambra, according to police.
