Major cities hit – massive power outages paralyze Pakistan

Date:

Pakistan has been experiencing nationwide power outages since the early hours of the morning. The reason for the collapse was fluctuations in the power grid. Authorities believe it could take up to 12 hours for the issues to be resolved.

Energy production currently comes to a standstill at night because consumption is lower in the cool months. According to the Department of Energy, when production restarted in the morning, there were fluctuations that eventually brought down the power grid.

Last major power outage in October
Authorities called on the population not to panic. Power outages are common in Pakistan – but not to that extent – all major cities are cut off at the same time. The last major power outage did not occur until October of the previous year. Even then, the repair work took several hours.

The risk of power outages has increased due to the economic crisis and this summer’s catastrophic flooding in the South Asian country.
