Two boxing kangaroos have caused a panic at a campsite on Australia’s east coast: the two marsupials were in the middle of a fight when they crashed into a family tent in the heat of battle. Inside, the terrified screams of a woman could be heard.
Fortunately, the hard brawl at the Trial Bay Gaol Campground north of Sydney ended lightly for the holidaymakers in the tent. Whether the marsupials fought over territory or over a female is not clear. Normally kangaroos are peaceful animals, but when they compete they can wrestle extremely aggressively. In addition to boxing blows, heavy kicks are also used. People should keep their distance from the fascinating natural spectacle.
Attack extremely dangerous for humans
In rare cases, the marsupials also attack humans. There have been several attacks in the past year that resulted in injuries. In September, there was the first fatal accident in more than 80 years: a 77-year-old man who kept a pet kangaroo was attacked and died of his injuries.
The kangaroo is Australia’s national animal. There are four types of hopping marsupials: the red kangaroo, the eastern gray kangaroo, the western gray kangaroo, and the antelope kangaroo.
