The Michelin factory in Vitoria-Gasteiz will expand its facilities and install new machines to produce quieter tires, for which it will invest 4 million euros.
The management of the factory in the capital of Alava announced this Thursday that they will produce this tire that integrates a specific polyurethane foam bonded into it that dampens the resonance of sound, which reduces the acoustic comfort in the passenger compartment of the vehicle.
This technology allows for a reduction of approximately a twenty % the noise level perceived inside the vehicle, something that is especially important in electric vehicles, where the main source of noise comes from the rolling of the tires and not the engine.
Currently, the tires produced at the Vitoria-Gasteiz and Valladolid plants that require this technology are transported to other plants of the group in Europe to Polyurethane foam.
With the new facility in Álava, the shipment and, in many cases, the return of around 800,000 tires per year to these factories in Europe, resulting in a reduction in CO2 emissions from transport, according to the multinational.
The project, which is scheduled to be developed and start production in the course of this year early 2024will also entail the creation of some 12 new jobs in the capital of Alava.
