Fire in the classroom – bag was ablaze: school evacuated

A school class from the Federal School Center in St. Veit an der Glan was lucky. A school bag caught fire during class on Friday morning. The entire school had to be evacuated.

Just before 9 a.m., alarm bells went off at St. Veit School. In a classroom, for unknown reasons, a school bag caught fire. “The classroom was empty and locked at the time because the students were taught in another room,” the police said.

Fire under control with fire extinguisher
The firefighter and the janitor of the school immediately set out armed with fire extinguishers. A short time later “fire out” could be given. The janitor of the school had to go to the hospital for clarification after his extinguishing operation.

Fire investigators must determine the cause
It is unclear why the backpack suddenly caught fire. Therefore, the district fire investigator and forensic investigation were called in to provide clarification. The amount of material damage has not yet been determined.
