Horrible case – 37-year-old had abused babies in video chats

Date:

He gave precise orders and enjoyed the pain of his little victims live online: the LKA Upper Austria clarified a case of child abuse and pornography. A 37-year-old from the Vöcklabruck district is suspected of having exchanged, hoarded and commissioned relevant material.

The reason for the success was an investigation into an upload of relevant material that showed child abuse. On August 28, 2022, a search of the home of the 37-year-old suspect followed, during which various smartphones and computers, game consoles and other data carriers were seized. Forensic examination of these electronic data carriers revealed that the man was in possession of more than 4,000 images of the abuse of child pornography. Faced with the fact, the suspect denied any guilt at the time.

Abuse of live chat
Further investigation by the LKA revealed that the suspect also conducted relevant live video chats. The 37-year-old had contact with women from East Asia, especially the Philippines. In these secure chats, the suspect instructed these women to abuse children in front of the ongoing webcam as per his own instructions. There were both attempts and accomplished determination. The victims of these acts are likely to have been between the ages of two months and six years at the most, as captured screenshots show.

house search possible
Based on these new findings, the public prosecutor’s office in Wels ordered the arrest of the suspect and a new search, which the police carried out on January 28, 2023. The officials of the LKA Upper Austria have again secured various electronic data carriers (smartphones, hard drives, USB sticks, etc.).

Largely known
During the recent questioning of the suspect, the 37-year-old now largely confessed and also admitted that he had again appropriated abuse files of child pornography. Notably, he also admitted that he had been targeted by others to sexually assault children via live chat since at least 2016. The 37-year-old also poured money towards the abusers. The suspect has now been transferred to Wels prison.

Emotionally difficult tasks
Interior Minister Gerhard Karner thanked the detectives in the LKA Upper Austria: “Investigating such cruel acts is also a great strain on the psyche of the detectives”, which one faces in the criminal service,” added Andreas Pilsl, director of the state police, “These investigators deserve the highest credit for their achievements and strength.”

Stronger instruments against child abuse
“Child sexual abuse is one of the most heinous forms of violent crime. The federal government’s package of measures will also expand the scope of investigative powers and give the police more powerful tools,” said Interior Minister Gerhard Karner.
