The eco-party warns that the influx of water from the Moson-Danube could have fatal consequences for the natural gem. Instead, rainwater must be collected and fed into the lake. The country rejects criticism that the supply of a manageable amount of Danube water does not threaten damage to the steppe lake, it is said.
The question of how to save the Neusiedlersee also occupies politics. However, the Greens warn against diverting the water from the Moson-Danube directly into the steppe lake. This could have devastating consequences and possibly lead to even faster dehydration, says state MP Wolfgang Spitzmüller. Previous studies have already proven this. Instead, rainwater must be collected from the surrounding communities and channeled to the lake. There is a plea for doping of the groundwater.
Country sees no negative effects
The country has a different view. A direct supply of Danube water on a manageable scale will have no negative effects. According to the office of State Councilor Heinrich Dorner, a corresponding feasibility study will be presented in August, which will also prove this. The water is very suitable for a supply, emphasizes SPÖ spokesman Erwin Preiner.
The PVV also spoke: without an influx from the Moson-Danube, the lake would disappear in the foreseeable future, warned State Secretary Christian Ries.
