A car burglar (53) was caught in Vienna-Döbling on Monday afternoon with a five-digit euro amount and an expensive watch after observant witnesses had noticed the thief.
According to police spokesman Philipp Haßlinger, witnesses saw around 5 p.m. in a parking lot of a supermarket on Heiligenstädter Strasse how the 53-year-old cut or ripped open the rear window of an older and poorly maintained Porsche convertible and called the police. The officers had caught the man searching the sports car.
Two police officers were injured
The 53-year-old defended himself en masse against his arrest, lightly wounding two officers, who were able to continue their service. After getting the man under control, the officers were stunned when he went to search: in addition to burglary tools, the large amount in euros and the luxury watch also came to light.
The suspect, previously only spotted in connection with a minor offense, remained in police custody. It is unclear whether the 53-year-old had the money and watch from the Porsche.
