“That was the horror!” – Three shots fired at police officers?

Date:

In August 2020, a 33-year-old started a large-scale police operation in Vienna-Penzing: once he fired his gun into a taxi, three times according to the charges against two officers. “I didn’t shoot at the police officers,” the man said in court. The shots were not aimed. That’s how the jury sees it.

“I kept crying. That was horrible,” recalls a police officer on the witness stand at the Vienna Regional Court. On that day in August last year, it was not an unusual operation – “Alkofix furious” was the description. That the two officers now having to testify as a victim in a double murder trial came as a surprise.

The shot went off in the taxi
A few hours earlier: Out of jealousy, a 33-year-old visited his girlfriend’s alleged affair – with a gun. On its way through Vienna, a taxi was shot. The police were alerted, but were unaware that the two operations were connected.

Three shots but only one bullet hole?
The suspect then shot the officers twice in a hallway. Shots were fired outside. “I shot so I could run away,” said the Serb. For lawyer Mirsad Musliu, the crime scene raises questions. A bullet hole at knee height and a single bullet were found. There is no trace of the other shots.

The 33-year-old claims he only fired into the air twice outside – “but not on purpose at all”. The jury saw it this way: two and a half years in prison for defying state authority. “It is a great success,” says lawyer Musliu, who is happy with the acquittal of the two murder attempts and accepts the verdict.
