That was not the intention: Paula (29) and her partner Lukas (30) actually wanted to drive themselves to the hospital when the contractions started. But little Elias was in a hurry. With the help of the Red Cross, the little man finally emerged into the world in early January on his way to the hospital in the city of Salzburg.
Mom Paula’s (29) contractions quickly became stronger and the intervals became shorter. Going to the hospital on their own, which the couple had actually planned, became impossible.
The expectant parents called the Red Cross via an emergency call. As the family waited, the contractions became stronger. At the same time as the first contraction, the ambulance arrived with the team of Red Cross helpers.
Just in time
As soon as the ambulance crew lifted the expectant mother into the ambulance with the stretcher, everything happened very quickly: “Two minutes later the baby was already there,” ambulance crew member Christoph recalls.
Mother and child were then immediately examined on site. The ambulance then took him to the state hospital for further care. The family is doing well and happy with their fast-moving Elias.
