Seven years after its market launch, American internet giant Google is finally officially selling its Pixel smartphone series in Austria. The new flagships are called Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, cost 800 and 1000 euros respectively and have features such as the latest Google processor Tensor 3 with nine computing cores. Enough to take the lead in the world of Android smartphones?
Google’s Pixel smartphones distinguish themselves from other Android devices. Instead of a purchased chip from Qualcomm or MediaTek, Google relies on a self-developed processor and the software has a seven-year update promise (!) that no other manufacturer dares to say. The rest of the features – OLED display, powerful camera, waterproof housing – also sound promising at first glance. However, in the test, the Pixel 8 and its Pro sister model could not deliver in all respects what they promised on paper.
