After seven wolves were shot by hunters, an animal has now fallen victim to morning traffic near Villach. The driver of the accident is believed to have caused a collision.
The accident probably happened in the darkness of the early morning hours. Because no report was filed, it is suspected that the driver of the accident may have committed a collision. Around 7 a.m., employees of the Villach magistrate found the animal in the St. Martin district, near a spur of the Dobratsch. This is a young male wolf that may have been spotted several times before.
This is also confirmed by the state’s wolf commissioner, Roman Kirnbauer, who examined the animal, took x-rays and took DNA samples. “We have a lot of sightings in the city area and have had a few scares there as well,” Kirnbauer said. It is not yet clear whether this wolf stood out. His investigation subsequently confirmed that the accident was the cause of death. The young wolf had massive injuries to its head and hind legs, but no projectiles or splinters were discovered.
