The American court in Philadelphia sentenced the 56-year-old to three years and one month in prison. But that is not everything. He remains on probation for 15 years, is registered as a sex offender and is not allowed to practice his profession as a priest.
The pastor was arrested because an employee found photos on the computer. McCandles downloaded the photos from the Internet. The recordings showed child pornography, including rape.
At first, the pastor denied his horrific deeds. But in court he then confessed: “I want to admit what I have done. Words cannot express how deep my regret is.”
Princess Charlène continued to keep in touch with McCandles even after the recall from Monaco. Father Bill bore the title of official adviser to the 45-year-old. He also took care of their children, eight-year-old twins Jacques and Gabriella.
