After eight months of “vacation” under the Greek sun, the 56-year-old from Steyr-Land district reappeared with his child after contact with target detectives. He was arrested at Vienna airport due to a European arrest warrant for stalking. He has no rights of custody.
No one wants to change places with this mother: the 36-year-old from the Steyr-Land district had to wait eight months before she could hug her son again for the first time. Because her ex-partner used the father’s weekend on May 27, 2022 with their three-year-old son to kidnap him. At the same time, a main trial against him was already underway at the Steyr Regional Court on suspicion of continued persecution.
Wanted with a European Arrest Warrant
The court had the suspected stalker searched with the help of a European arrest warrant. When the detectives of the Upper Austrian Criminal Police found out, they were able to contact the 56-year-old, who was now in Greece with his son. After repeated phone calls, the suspect allowed himself to be convinced that it would be better if he brought the child back.
Finally back
The day before yesterday, Thursday, he finally flew back to Vienna with the little one. Father and son were received at Vienna-Schwechat airport by the police and employees of the national youth care. The boy was put under medical care and the father was initially taken to Garsten Prison.
Set free
On Friday, the suspect – who is under investigation on suspicion of child abduction and neglect of minors (§ 92) – was released against more lenient means, since he voluntarily ended his flight. However, the 56-year-old was given the condition that he was not allowed to contact his mother, according to the Steyr court.
Children pay the most
“And I love you both. Because I’m your child. Why can’t I decide where I want to be?” – Andrea Jürgens sang this hit song in 1978, in which a child suffers from a divorce.
Since then nothing has changed. On the contrary: in Upper Austria, the divorce rate in 2021 was an alarming 33.7 percent. Many ex-couples manage to get over the breakup. But some sink into a quagmire of hatred. Then there is a fight, come hell or high water, the children are abused as weapons and ammunition. Unfortunately, these parents often don’t care about their misery.
