The President of the United States, Joe Bidenduring his State of the Union address, asked Congress to pass his tax plan to tax big business and fortunes.
Biden recalled that by 2020, 55 of the largest companies in the United States made $40,000 million (37,000 million euros) in profits and paid “zero taxes” in federal income, a fact he has described as unfair.
“Thanks to the law I signed, billion-dollar companies must pay a minimum of 15%. Only the fifteen %. That’s less than what a nurse pays. Let’s be clear,” he stressed, reiterating before Congress his request to pass a tax package that raises taxes on the wealthiest.
In that sense, he has urged Republicans to “work together” to “finish the work that will lead to economic recovery” after several years of setbacks.
In his speech, which lasted 73 minutes, he stressed that the country has managed to “improve dramatically” economically compared to the state of the economy when he took office two years ago.
