Danilov: “Don’t close your eyes”
In an interview with Reuters news agency, the head of the Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Oleksiy Danilov, said that he considered it perfectly appropriate to also attack legitimate targets in Russia: “Let’s say there is a certain point in Russia of from which we know for sure that a device is launching missiles at our children.”
“Should we quietly observe this point and close our eyes – or destroy it if we have the capacity?” His answer: “If there is a facility that causes destruction in our country… we must destroy these facilities. This is war,” Danilov continued.
Russia insists on “showpiece results”
In the Ukraine, in principle, it is not expected that Russia will make peace efforts in the short term, but that a major offensive in the regions of Kharkiv and Zaporizhia will soon take place. Russia will try to achieve flagship results around the first anniversary of the war on Feb. 24, Danilov said.
Danilov is skeptical of other Ukrainian officials’ assumptions that Moscow could also be planning an attack from its ally Belarus’ territory on northwestern Ukraine. It is “doubtful if they will come from that direction” because “there are clearly not enough troops there”.
