There are slightly more Covid 19 patients in hospitals again. The Covid forecast consortium will assume that on Wednesday. The increase affects ordinary wards, the number in intensive care units should remain about the same.
In detail, between 615 and 1018 occupied beds are expected in normal wards across Austria in two weeks. On Tuesday, this figure was still 772 people infected with Covid-19. There were 44 seriously ill people in intensive care units. Here, the Covid prognosis criterion expects between 30 and 60 patients on February 22.
Infections are on the rise
In addition, the number of infections should increase slightly overall. Both the figures from the Epidemiological Reporting System (EMS) and the data from wastewater monitoring confirm a slightly upward trend.
The current wave is “demanding”, but there is no need to fear that the capacity of the hospitals will be exceeded, Vienna Mayor Michael Ludwig (SPÖ) said. As reported, he said that the current scheme, which runs until the end of February, does not have to be extended. This means that face masks are no longer mandatory in public transport and pharmacies. The PCR test requirement for visitors to hospitals and nursing homes will also be canceled and the upper limit of three people per day will be lifted.
