Ukraine’s President Volodimir Zelensky has stressed before the European Parliament that his country “will be a member of the European Union”, while defending the community’s “way of life” and assuring that his country in Europe is “the way home”.
“We are getting closer to the European Union, Ukraine is joining the European Union,” Zelensky predicted to applause at the extraordinary plenary session of the European Parliament called for his visit.
During his first personal visit to this institution since the beginning of the war, Zelensky, together with the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, held a community flag and listened to the national anthems of Ukraine and the European Union by her side. .
The Ukrainian president has stated that his country sees Europe in an “all-out war” started by Russia, the Kremlin is trying to “destroy the European way of life in Ukraine”.
“For Ukraine, Europe is the way home. I am here to defend the way home for all Ukrainians, of all ages, social status and religious beliefs,” said Zelensky, who will then take part in a visit to the European Parliament the European Council.
