The police did nothing – new recording shows Gabby Petito being abused

Date:

About 14 months after the body of Gabby Petito, who was missing in the US, was found, the 22-year-old’s parents have published new evidence. Among them is a shot showing Gabby with visible injuries to her face. The selfie was taken minutes before a police checkpoint. Police should have seen Gabby’s injuries, the family said. A short time later, the young woman was presumably murdered by her fiancé Brian Laundrie (23). Could the murder have been prevented?

Gabby’s parents sued Utah police in November for $50 million. They are accusing the officials of negligence in the case, as the family’s lawyers in Salt Lake City said. “Gabby would be alive today” if police had followed the rules of the day when dealing with victims of domestic violence, according to attorney James W. McConkie.

McConkie was referring to an incident in mid-August 2021 when Utah police were called to the couple’s vehicle due to a possible case of domestic violence.

Devastated and crying, Petito said in a video captured by the police body camera that she had OCD and an altercation broke out. She punched her boyfriend and he violently grabbed her in the face.

The young woman started a road trip through the United States with her fiancé in 2021. On Sept. 1, the boyfriend returned home alone in Florida, police said. Ten days later, Petito’s parents reported their daughter missing.

On Sept. 19, the 22-year-old’s body was discovered in the state of Wyoming, and then parts of the 23-year-old’s body were discovered in a Florida wildlife sanctuary in late October. According to the coroner, he died from a self-inflicted gunshot. The FBI later said the young man wrote a notebook claiming responsibility for Petito’s death before committing suicide.
