“Safety at risk” – the shortage of personnel in the Lower Austrian ports is now reaching a peak

Date:

In the “Felsen”, the legendary Stein prison in Krems, Lower Austria, which houses many of Austria’s most famous criminals, 50 guards are currently missing. There will likely be 75 by the end of the year – and the institution is no exception. Where the problems lie and what politicians should do now.

Whether in clinics, in nursing homes or in schools – wherever you look in the country, there is a lack of skilled labour. Prisons are no longer an exception. On average, security guards in the country work about 35 hours of overtime per month. Especially in the Steingevangenis, probably the best-known harbor in Lower Austria, the staff shortage is particularly dramatic at the moment.
