A devastating house fire broke out in Vienna-Währing on Sunday night. A woman from Vienna (75) and her cat could only be found dead after the extinguishing operation.
Concerned neighbors alerted emergency services around 5 a.m. after noticing a strong smell of burning. The alarmed firefighters laid a fire line across the stairwell, gained access to the smoky apartment and fought the flames with respiratory protection.
Building searched for injured
A powerful ventilation device was also used in the extinguishing attempt to prevent further smoke development. At the same time, they searched the building for the wounded. The lifeless woman and her dead pet were discovered.
