Her stories initially sounded very dramatic: a 30-year-old woman recently told the Viennese police that she had been the victim of an armed robbery. She was threatened with a gun and her car was subsequently stolen. But now the alleged incident is completely different – and the alleged victim has reported herself.

Late at night on January 16, the 30-year-old reported the alleged car theft to the inspection Hohenbergstraße in Meidling. “Now, in the course of the investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department, Southern Department, it has been discovered that the crime was fabricated,” police spokesman Markus Dittrich said Monday.

The woman had put the car up for sale on an internet platform. Surprisingly, when she met someone who was interested in buying, an acquaintance of her husband turned up, carried a gun and stole the car, the 30-year-old said at the time.

Because more and more questions came up during the investigation, the woman was finally questioned again. “As a result, she admitted that the robbery was fabricated,” said the spokesperson. “The motive would have been anger at the acquaintance, to whom her husband is said to be in debt.” -with violence.

The 30-year-old is under investigation for faking a crime. Further investigations are underway.
