Painful scenes played out for a family in Eltendorf in Burgenland on Wednesday. The family’s home caught fire around noon for unknown reasons. The fire could not be extinguished by noon – luckily no one was injured. Shelter must now be found for the completely needy family, Mayor Christian Schaberl said when asked by “Krone”.
According to Schaberl, the square building that caught fire around noon could not be extinguished on Wednesday afternoon. Recordings from a “Krone” reader reporter show the dramatic scenes before the burning house.
“There are still numerous barrages in action,” Schaberl tells the “Krone”, as he sits at the table with the stricken family. Accommodation must now be found for the family – the help of the municipality is needed.
However, community cohesion appears to be strong: According to Schaberl, an innkeeper has already contacted him and is providing shelter for the family. But possibly for a long time – because the whole house is destroyed, and after the firefighting work, only rubble and ashes should remain.
