Crashed in England – Thai teen died 5 years after cave drama

Date:

Duangphet Promthep survived the spectacular cave drama in Thailand – now he died in England at just 17 years old. He was captain of the football team that was locked up with the coach for days in a flooded stalactite cave. Last year, the young man moved to a football academy in Leicester. According to media reports, he had an accident there that cost him his life.

The youth football team and their coach were freed from a flooded cave after 17 days in a sensational rescue operation – the way out was four kilometers long and had to be carefully planned by numerous professional divers. Miraculously, all twelve boys and their trainer survived. But Promthep has now tragically passed away four and a half years after being rescued from the cave.

Scholarship received at the football academy
The teenager was delighted to have been awarded a high-level scholarship from a football academy last year. “I promise to focus and do my best,” Promthep wrote on social media. As the “New York Times” reported, a teacher allegedly found the student unconscious in his dorm room on Sunday afternoon. He then died in a hospital.

“We are waiting for his body to be returned,” his mother, Thanaporn Duangthep, told an online press conference in the northern Thai city of Mae Sai. At least her son was able to fulfill his dream of becoming a football student abroad.

The Zico Foundation, a Thai non-profit organization that helped Phromthep with the scholarship, wrote on Facebook: “The principal of Brooke House College (where the teen studied) is deeply saddened that Dom passed away on Tuesday afternoon after being taken to hospital. emergency treatment on Sunday. The school extends its deepest condolences to Dom’s family, relatives and friends.” Another post shared a photo of the 17-year-old.
