Fighting in northwestern Syria for the first time since the earthquake
For the first time since the earthquake, fighting has broken out between Syrian government forces and rebels in northwestern Syria. According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, forces of President Bashar al-Assad have shelled suburbs of the rebel-held city of Atareb.
Accordingly, there were also clashes in Saraqeb and Hama province. The region was one of the hardest hit by the February 6 earthquake in the Turkish-Syrian border region, which killed more than 44,000 people, with about 5,900 in northwestern Syria, according to the United Nations.
Aid organizations complain that hardly any help arrives there. Even before the earthquake, more than four million people in the region depended on relief supplies. The earthquake in Turkey killed more than 39,000 people.
