Details about the shooting in the US – the alleged perpetrator also killed his ex-wife

Date:

Six people were killed in a shooting at four different locations in the US state of Mississippi on Friday. According to the police, the suspect killed his ex-wife, among other things. His motive is still unknown Saturday morning.

The Arkabutla gunman had shot dead a man in a shop and then a woman in a nearby building. He then went to another house where he is believed to have lived and killed two other people there, police said.

Deputy Sheriff gave chase
When a deputy saw the suspect’s vehicle, he gave chase. The man was eventually apprehended in a driveway. In this building, the officers found two other victims – one in a car, one on the street. The death toll rose to six.

It is believed the alleged shooter acted alone, Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves said on Twitter. The motive is still unknown. The broadcaster CNN reported, citing the police, that the alleged perpetrator killed, among other things, his ex-wife.

The bloody crime took place in Arkabutla, a village of less than 300 people in northern Mississippi’s Tate County, about 60 kilometers south of the metropolis of Memphis, Tennessee. The United States has long been plagued by mass gun violence, with recurrent deadly gun attacks.

Biden: ‘Gun violence is an epidemic’
US President Joe Biden expressed his displeasure and once again called on Congress to pass stricter gun laws in the country. For example, assault rifles may be banned. “Gun violence is an epidemic and Congress must act now,” Biden said. However, after every major gun attack, calls for legal reform have been unsuccessful. Many Republicans have opposed stricter rules for years. The fact that children of school age are often killed by firearms does not change that.
