He Medical Union of Navarre (SMN) has decided call off the strike of health workers started on February 1 after gaining the support of about two thirds of the doctors who attended this Monday’s four meetings, although the possibility remains to declare a new indefinite strike from March 15 if the regional government does not comply with what has been agreed .

This was confirmed by the Secretary General of the SMN, Alberto Pérez, after the meetings held in the hospitals of Estella, Ubarmin, Pamplona and Tudelameetings they attended about 200 people in total and that in the case of the University Hospital of Navarra (HUN) “has been intense”, he has acknowledged, as those who did not support the agreement planned to continue striking.

Pérez has indicated that despite calling off the strike from midnight tonight, they have “maintained a guarantee because they caught us punished” so that “tomorrow from March 15 we will again declare another indefinite strike, which we will carry out when we see deadlines being pushed back or that there are no signs that the agreements will be fulfilled”.

Alberto Pérez (SMN): “They caught us chastened”

He also indicated that it will be this Wednesday when they will meet again with the government of Navarre to formally sign the agreement, “and from there start the implementation of the measures, first of all the resolutions to block the talks” and not higher than established daily patients.

When asked about his assessment, he said so personally is “satisfied”both for the outcome and the development of the meetings: “People were very participatory, saying things very well, expressing their doubts and their problems.”

He also had a message for him about it a third of colleagues who chose to go on strike“That’s the message they are still right. Then I have to back off in a few weeks and say that the proposal that the SMN had made was not correct and that they were right, that we should have continued to strike because the health department fooled us.”

He has told them to “greatly appreciate their sincerity, that they have not been swept along by the bulk of the vote. They have maintained their position, reasoned and defended” what they put forward.
