The automatic emergency call from his smartphone caught a driver without a driver’s license on Tuesday evening. The man had built an accident in a forest near Sierning in the Steyr-Land district. His mobile phone automatically sounded the alarm. He then called 911 and said it was a mistake.
At that time, the patrol was already on its way. When officers arrived on scene, they saw the damaged car parked in a wooded area. The driver and his passenger immediately admitted that they had been in an accident.
Neither had a driver’s license and an alcohol test on the driver showed that there was 0.9 alcohol in the blood. The 39-year-old also said he borrowed his father’s car and was unaware he was driving without a license.
The driver and his passenger were unharmed in the accident, no other vehicle was involved. However, the car was damaged and there was damage to the ground, police said.
