They were actually responsible for security, but now they themselves have been exposed as suspected perpetrators. Two young men are strongly suspected of burglaries as security personnel in a Viennese hospital. They’d been up to mischief for two months and now their work has been shut down.
The two suspects, a 20-year-old Afghan and a 21-year-old Slovak, mainly targeted offices and treatment rooms, which they entered at night with stolen access cards. Everything that was not nailed down, namely money, electronic devices, other valuables and perfume, went into the pockets of the alleged perpetrators.
As the investigation progressed, the evidence became increasingly concentrated, all pointing to the two security guards as the suspected perpetrators. There was an arrest. But it was only the overwhelming evidence and ongoing interrogations that finally led the two suspects to admit and confess to their crimes.
More than a dozen thefts in two months
In total, the two alleged thieves struck 15 times from November to December. During house searches on February 16, the stolen entrance tickets, 7100 euros in cash and valuables were seized. According to the police, the total damage amounts to 20,000 euros.
A roommate of one of the suspects was also reported. The 24-year-old Afghan pretended that the money found in the apartment belonged to him – which turned out to be a lie.
