WEGA arrests man – operation in Vienna: gun found in pram

WEGA operation on Wednesday around 2 a.m. at Sachsenplatz in Vienna-Brigittenau: A man is said to have fired a gun into the air several times. When the police arrived on the scene, the man (32) fled into a stairwell. He hid the gun there in a stroller.

The police were alerted in the middle of the night because the man allegedly fired several times in the air. When officers arrived on scene, firefighters fired a shot. When WEGA tried to arrest the suspect, he fled into a stairwell.

The suspect did not shoot
After a short time, the Turkish national was apprehended there by the police. The 32-year-old had hidden the weapon in a pram – it was secured by the officers. According to the alleged perpetrator, the weapon should not belong to him. He denies any guilt – he would not have fired either.

A police officer was injured when he was kicked
While clarifying the facts, the 32-year-old tried to flee, knocked over a moped and was stopped a few meters away by an officer. Suddenly, the man kicked a police officer’s foot, injuring him. The 32-year-old was arrested.

The man was transferred to prison after his arrest
Officials of the Vienna Criminal Investigation Department were able to detect traces of smoke on his hands. The man has no gun law document. He was given a temporary gun ban. The Turk partially confessed and was taken to prison by order of the Vienna prosecutor’s office.
