The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, has indicated on the first anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine that “it has been a year of pain, sorrow, faith and unity”. “And this year we have remained invincible. We know that 2023 will be the year of our victory,” said the Ukrainian president.

Likewise, he stressed that on February 24, “millions” of Ukrainians “made a choice” by defending the blue and yellow flag. “We did not flee, but we faced each other. Resist and fight,” the Ukrainian leader emphasized.

Zelensky posted this post on social mediaaccompanied by a video with images of the victims of the war, of the wounded and displaced, of the struggle of the soldiers of the Ukrainian army, or of the many demonstrations in different cities of the world in support of Kiev.

In addition, the Ukrainian president has one speech to the nation the first in the morning when he recalled that February 24, 2022 was “the longest of our lives” as well as “the most difficult day in our modern history”. “We woke up early and haven’t slept since,” he denounced, before assuring it was “a year of invincibility”, of “resilience, care and courage”, resisting “threats, bombardments (… ), blackouts and cold”.

“We fought, we fought fiercely every day. We endured the second day and then the third. They predicted that we would last three days. They threatened that in 72 hours we would cease to exist. But we survived the fourth day, then the fifth. , and today we get up exactly one year. We know it’s worth fighting for every morning,” he said.

Zelensky thanked the armed forces, rescuers or emergency services, as well as partners and allies who supported Kiev this year.

“Ukraine has surprised the world. Ukraine has inspired the world. Ukraine has united the world,” he said, adding that he was “happy that the international anti-Putin coalition has grown so strong.”
