Five are caught – brutal home invasion: police hunt for last perpetrator

Date:

A 55-year-old woman from Styria died a true martyr’s death in December last year in her own four walls in Stattegg near Graz: perpetrators attacked the woman, tied her up and tried to break open a safe. After the brutal act they fled, the woman was able to free herself with a pen. Now detectives were able to investigate and arrest five perpetrators. One is still a fugitive and is wanted.

Then they asked for the code to their safe. In shock, however, the victim could not remember. To get to the valuables, the perpetrators cut the safe out of the wall with an angle grinder and dragged the 300-kilogram item into a white van. Then they searched the house for anything valuable and then drove off.

The 55-year-old had to endure an hour and a half with the criminals. When they finally left, she managed to use a pin to untie her and flee to a neighbor, where she called the police.

Perpetrators identified and arrested
Careful investigation by the criminal investigation department of the state of Styria led to the first arrests at the beginning of February. These are two Russians (27 and 28 years old) who live in Graz. Other suspects were quickly identified during the interrogations. On the evening of February 17, 2022, a 28-year-old man from Graz was arrested.

Latest investigations led to the last two Ash Wednesday arrests. Two Grazers, a woman (48) and a man (28) were found and arrested. The two are contributors that obtained information about the crime scene through friendly relations with the victim’s family and made it available to the main perpetrators.

The search is still ongoing for a person involved in the crime: a 22-year-old Brazilian reported in Leoben is strongly suspected of having acted as the main perpetrator. The man is wanted on the basis of an international arrest warrant.
