Trial in Innsbruck – Bankomatsprenger has to go to prison for four and a half years

Date:

An explosive gang blew up three ATMs in Tyrol in the summer of 2019 and kept the police on their toes for months. A Romanian (43) should have made a big loot with it in at least two cases. In any case, he should be behind bars now.

The wheels of justice often grind slowly but steadily! A Romanian (43) is now aware of this. Because almost four years after he allegedly had a hand in ATM explosions in Vomp and Nußdorf-Debant, the family man, who has lived in Italy for years, now had to answer to a court in Tyrol.

Men all blame each other
The 43-year-old has been targeted by law enforcement, particularly as he was reported by his alleged accomplices – both of whom were sentenced to four and four-and-a-half years in prison in 2020. In addition, a policewoman in the Unterland, who was shopping privately, could remember “the two corpulent boys who almost looked like twins”.

Just four days before the ATM was torn into several parts at 03:39 sharp on August 14, 2019, and the crooks got away with nearly 100,000 euros, the duo should have been spying on the crime scene in Vomp. “But I have nothing to do with the case in East Tyrol,” the Romanian tried to convince the jury and repeatedly tried to shift the blame to a compatriot who had already served his sentence in Romania.

However, the court had no doubt that the 43-year-old had blown up both the ATMs in Vomp and Nußdorf-Debant and therefore sentenced him – not legally binding – to four and a half years in prison. In addition, 49,450 euros – his allocated share from the coup in the lowlands – were confiscated. It’s doubtful the state will ever see the money…
