A marsupial in the Güssing district has been missing for days. The runaway appears again and again in the forest, but he cannot be caught.
There is unrest in the home of Patrick P. in Deutsch Bieling, a neighborhood of the municipality of Heiligenbrunn. A white wallaby keeps the animal lover and his partner Kathrin on their toes. Last Monday, the unusual resident of the kangaroo family escaped from its enclosure and never returned. It was feared that the refugee had escaped across the border into Hungary.
“Chepi” on the run
But “Chepi” did not go far, he stayed close to his usual home. The one-year-old wallaby now roams the forest on the outskirts of Deutsch Bieling. “After ‘Chepi’ ran away, we saw him again and again on the same day he disappeared, as well as on Friday and yesterday. But he is not that easy to catch,” said the owners. However, you don’t have to worry that the wallaby could starve: “Our ‘Chepi’ is not fussy. He will find enough grass and leaves to eat.”
Hope for a vet
A stun blow gun is not enough to catch the wayward wallaby. Patrick P. and his partner can hope for the help of a veterinarian. Thanks to their expertise and the necessary equipment, it should be possible to track down the runaway in his hiding place in the woods on Sunday and not let him escape.
If the use of animals fails on the first try, the day trippers are appealed to: “Please don’t look for ‘Chepi’! As soon as people get too close to him, he will jump away and possibly disappear forever.”
