A group of ski tourers from Germany did not know what to do on Saturday evening at the Stubacher Sonnblick near Uttendorf in the Salzburger Pinzgau. The mountain rescue saved the winter sports enthusiasts in freezing temperatures.
Around 6:40 p.m., two women and three men from Germany made an emergency call on Saturday. They got stuck in the area of the Stubacher Sonnblick at about 2700 meters altitude and were unable to continue.
Freezing temperatures and darkness
Despite the darkness, fog and blowing snow, the mountain rescuers entered the steep and rocky terrain. The most unfavorable conditions and temperatures down to minus 14 degrees made it difficult for the alpinists of the mountain rescue service Enzingerboden. After about 2.5 hours, they finally got to the hypothermic but unharmed tourers.
The mountain rescuers brought the Germans safely to the Berghotel Rudolfshütte well after midnight. The ski tour group had been on the Hoch-Tirol (high mountain crossing of the Eastern Alps) ski route. They got lost in the Granatscharte area and ended up in the steep and rocky terrain above the glacial lake at over 2700 meters altitude.
