Cat “Maxi” disappeared in 2021 in Asten (Upper Austria) – despite the travel ban due to Corona at the time – and was desperately sought by his owners. Exactly two years after the disappearance, “Maxi” has now resurfaced.
“It was just like in the movie”: Ursula Reisinger (46) from Asten still can’t believe what happened on Tuesday. She was traveling in Mauthausen with her husband Klaus (52). “He absolutely wanted to walk the Heinrichsbründlweg,” says Reisinger. Then, on a horse farm, an unusual encounter. “I saw a cat and immediately said, that’s our ‘Maxi’. Then I called him and he immediately ran towards us, meowing,” the woman from Asten is still delighted.
Swallowed by the ground
The reason: “Maxi” was exactly two years ago, on February 28, 2021, in the middle of the corona lockdown and suddenly seemed to have disappeared from the face of the earth despite the curfew, he did not show up after an excursion. “We really looked everywhere. In the end, we were pretty sure an owl got him,” says Reisinger.
Moving life
The animal was disheveled and emaciated, it had run to the tenant of the riding school. Ursula Reisinger does not know what has happened in the past 24 months. “We think he drove a car over the Danube Bridge and couldn’t find his way home.” The main thing is that “Maxi” is back home and is now spoiled. The cat has already been through a lot. “We originally took him from the animal shelter, where he ended up because he was run over and had to have his tail amputated,” says Reisinger.
