State of emergency declared – “Help us!”: Californians are trapped in the snow

Date:

Unusually violent blizzards have gripped the US state of California for a week. A state of emergency has been declared in many districts. The emergency services are battling power outages and massive snow masses that have cut off several settlements from the outside world. Residents of mountain villages (see video above) will probably have to hold out for a few more days.

The website poweroutage.us counted more than 82,000 households without power at times. Districts in the central interior along the Sierra Nevada were affected. Popular destinations in mountainous communities such as Lake Tahoe or Lake Arrowhead were once again covered in immense snowfall, as reported by the “Los Angeles Times.” Yosemite National Park is closed until further notice due to record-breaking snowfall.

Unusual amounts of snow
Even further south, in the actually sun-drenched area around the metropolis of Los Angeles, the amazement about the unusual whiteness continued. The mountains in the background of the famous “Hollywood” lettering above the Los Angeles neighborhood of the same name were also presented in white.

The situation is particularly tense in the village of Crestline. There, the residents help each other with snow shoveling and with the provision of relief supplies and food, after shops cannot open due to the enormous snow cover. Within a week it snowed about ten feet. The elderly in particular need help. California National Guard helicopters deliver essential supplies to snowbound people.

Sheriff: “We’ll dig you out”
The San Bernardino County Sheriff said Friday, “We’re going to dig you out.” We will come to you.” However, he also had to admit that it would probably take a few more days. More than a dozen residents of Crestline have already been brought to safety as their supplies ran out.
