A kindergarten teacher who was recently sentenced to five months in prison by the Linz Regional Court for the crime of the terrorist organization seems to be continuing to do her job. For example, in 2022, the 19-year-old shared videos on Instagram of veiled little girls beheading dolls and shouting the IS slogan “The Islamic State will remain and expand”.
The convicted Turkish woman commented on these video clips with the words: “My child, one day, in sha Allah”. She also confessed in court.
The case was not previously known to the primary education department of the education department of the state of Upper Austria, but it is also not responsible for the staff. A spokeswoman for the Education Directorate said it was employed by the kindergartens’ legal entities. According to “Kurier”, the employer probably knew nothing about the conviction either. The person concerned was still a teenager at the time of the crime, so the crime falls under the limited provision of information under the Reimbursement Act, court spokesman Walter Eichinger explains. As a result, sentences of up to six months for juveniles and young adults do not occur outside law enforcement authorities.
A professional ban against the young woman could not have been imposed. This can only be pronounced by the judge “if it is an act against life and limb, freedom or the sexual integrity and self-determination of minors,” Eichinger confirmed. However, the trial in question negotiated an “act against public peace”.
He also noted that each “case will be assessed by the judge on a case-by-case basis”. The maximum sentence for the young kindergarten teacher would have been five years. The judge, however, stuck to his verdict. Eichinger emphasized that it was “befitting the crime and guilt”; neither the defense nor the prosecutor’s office announced any complaints or appeals.
