The 12-year-old girl from Freudenberg in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, who was found dead on a bike path on Sunday, must undergo an autopsy on Monday. This has been confirmed by a spokeswoman for the Koblenz police. The child’s body was found on Sunday near a former train station in Rhineland-Palatinate.
Koblenz detectives did not provide information on the cause of death “for reasons of investigative tactics”. Also to when asked if the girl was a victim of a crime, there was initially no information.
The child was last seen in Freudenberg around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, walking home from a visit to a friend. When he did not come home, a large-scale search began in the evening with strong police and fire brigade troops. Police officers found the body in a wooded area around noon on Sunday.
Deep sorrow in the hometown
Flags will fly at half-mast in Freudenberg on Monday. “We are deeply shocked in Freudenberg and our thoughts are with the relatives. I have ordered mourning flags for today,” said mayor Nicole Reschke. The girl’s school opens and psychologists give lectures to classmates. A funeral service was held in town on Sunday evening.
