The CAV’s airports match or exceed passenger traffic data from February 2019

Bilbao Airport registered 348,667 passengers in the second month of 2023, 0.8% more, while San Sebastián Airport registered 24,966 passengers, 24.1% more, and Vitoria-Gasteiz 15,727, 77.2% more.

The Basque Country’s airports continue to recover pre-pandemic activity, and in February they surpassed the data recorded in the same month of 2019, as reported by Aena on Monday. Specifically, passenger traffic at Bilbao Airport has reached 348,667 passengers with a growth of 0.8%, while that of San Sebastián has registered 24,966 passengers, 24.1%, and that of Vitoria-Gasteiz 15,727, 77.2% more.

In terms of type of traffic, that of the Spanish state has grown by 7.2% in the Bilbao airport compared to February 2019, up to 236,847 passengers. International travelers recover 89.3% from January 2019, with a total volume of 111,068 passengers. So far this year, Vizcaya Airport has handled 688,508 passengers, 1.3% more than in the first two months of 2019.

In Saint Sebastian, the airport ended February with a 24.1% growth in passenger numbers compared to the same month of 2019, accounting for a total of 24,966 travelers. So far this year it has carried 52,702 passengers, 34.3% more than the same period of 2019.

On the other hand, that of Vitoria-Gasteiz ended the month of February with a growth of 77.2% in passenger numbers compared to the same month of 2019, representing
a total of 15,727 travelers. So far, Álava’s infrastructure has carried 33,849 passengers this year, 80.4% more than in the first two months of 2019.

In the air cargo section, cargo traffic at Vitoria-Gasteiz airport reached 6,211 tons in July, Aena reports. The transported freight has therefore increased by 3.2% compared to the same month in 2021.
