In the Netherlands, a man has been convicted for the first time for secretly removing a condom during sex with a woman. He received a three-month suspended sentence. However, the court acquitted the 28-year-old of the rape charge.
The court in Dordrecht accused the man of exposing the woman to the risk of contracting a sexually transmitted disease or becoming pregnant. The two had agreed in the summer of 2021 to use a condom during sex. In bed, however, the suspect had secretly removed it again. This action is called “stealthing”, which is derived from the English word stealth, which means secret. If a sex partner removes or damages the condom without the consent of the other, this can be considered abuse.
In Dordrecht there was now a conviction in the Netherlands for the first time. The 28-year-old was given a three-month suspended sentence. In another case, however, a man was acquitted because there was insufficient evidence. Other European countries such as Great Britain and Germany have already imposed longer prison sentences for “stealthing”.
