Circular Saw Accident – Severed hand can be sewn back on

Date:

This is good news: the worker whose left hand was completely severed in a circular saw accident during the assembly of a PV system in Hochburg-Ach (Upper Austria) can reportedly hope to be able to grab it again soon. .

Because at the accident hospital in Salzburg, a team of doctors was able to fully reattach the amputated hand of the 45-year-old German – it had been cut off in the middle of the forearm. “It was a very demanding operation that lasted eight hours,” reports Christoph Luke of AUVA. Bones were screwed together, tendons, blood vessels and muscles were sewn back together – the microsurgeons worked on the microscope.

Hand is well supplied with blood
The operation went without complications, on Tuesday the hand was well supplied with blood. The patient is currently still in intensive care, but is conscious and will soon be transferred to the regular ward.

The coming days will decide
The next few days are crucial to ensure that the blood circulation is maintained and that the patient regains feeling in the hand, ie that the nerves function properly again. The biggest risk is infection, but doctors are optimistic the hand will survive.
