In an extraordinary Council of Ministers, the government has approved the last part of the pension reform, including increases in maximum bases and contributions, improvements in minimum pensions and the introduction of a dual model for calculating pensions, which will allow to choose between contribute the last 25 years or 29 years, omitting the two worst in this case.
“The modernization of our pension system is culminating and we are protecting the purchasing power of all current and future pensioners,” emphasized the Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, Jose Luis Escrivain the press conference after the council.
Escrivá has ensured that the reform “guarantees pensions, ensures purchasing power” and all this “within an absolutely robust framework of sustainability”. Likewise, it has indicated that in the reserve fund, the so-called “pension piggy bank“, it will amount to about 120 billion euros at the beginning of 2040.
According to the minister, from the early 1930s to the 1950s, savings will be used to protect pensions in the years of greatest demographic pressure.
