Great alarm on Wednesday afternoon in the Murpark shopping center in Graz: a man was out with a long gun and a handgun, an alleged 18-year-old reported on the police emergency call. Because the report was taken all the more seriously by the current terror warnings in Vienna, it was assumed that the first report was an “amocracy”.
A large contingent of dozens of police officers rushed to the mall, which was even evacuated, with vendors closing their stores as quickly as possible. Trams were stopped, wild rumors spread through the capital.
Wrong name, wrong age
The young lady also substantiated her statements on the spot. But it turned out she was no stranger. Because she always appears negative to the police! It soon became clear that she called the emergency services under a false name and, moreover, gave the wrong age – in fact, she is 16, not 18. As the “Krone” also found out, the young lady lives in a residential care home, from which she repeatedly escapes.
Girl was not followed
Now the assumption is that it was a prank call. Also because the girl’s statements do not match the video material from the Murpark. She testified that she was followed by a man. However, the videos show the opposite – she followed the 41-year-old, who she didn’t even know.
He was stunned when he was suddenly searched by the police. Neither a long gun nor a handgun was found in his backpack, only a pair of headphones. During a voluntary inspection of his apartment, nothing dangerous was discovered.
Joke call can be expensive
If it was really a bad joke on the girl’s part, it would cost her dearly. However, the police have not yet been able to estimate the cost of the operation. Fortunately no people were injured. However, one woman collapsed, she must have been deeply shocked.
