But the offensive marked – Battle of Bakhmut: Russians crossed the river

Date:

Russian troops have made progress in the battle for the eastern Ukrainian city of Bakhmut. In recent days, some units of the Russian army and mercenaries from the Wagner Group have gained a foothold west of the Bakhmutka River, Western military analysts said. At last the river had marked the front. However, Ukrainian troops, many of them volunteers (see video above), continue to defend the west of the city.

Ukrainian special forces managed to “eliminate” an enemy company and shoot down a drone, the Ukrainian special operations command said on Telegram. “Any attempted advance by the enemy will be repulsed,” the order affirmed.

So few offensives if not for a long time
Unlike Bakhmut, Russian forces on the rest of the front are carrying out fewer attacks than they have in a long time – at least since January, the defense ministry said in London on Friday. The information is based on the findings of the British secret services.

“Fighting Power Severely Exhausted”
“This is most likely due to the fact that the Russian armed forces have temporarily decimated the combat effectiveness of the deployed formations to such an extent that even local offensive actions are currently unsustainable,” it said in London. Most recently, US General Mark Milley also emphasized that every small tactical success by the Russians is accompanied by major losses in soldiers and equipment.

According to Western news services, Russia has registered a huge number of injured, dead and missing near Bakhmut in recent months. It is estimated that the Wagner group lost 20,000 to 30,000 mercenaries – one in three was said to have been killed by intelligence agencies.

Presumably, advances should resume when personnel and ammunition supplies are replenished. “Until then, commanders will probably have to choose between conducting offensive operations and conducting reliable front defence,” the British ministry said.
