Fight the price madness! In times of inflation, going to a pub is becoming an unaffordable luxury for more and more people. A Salzburg landlady now wants to set a good example and has created an “anti-inflation plate”. Here you can now get a main course for 7.90 euros.
“We want to make it possible for everyone to go to the pub and not have to cook for themselves. Inflation or not.” Karin Nicolussi-Kohlmayr came up with something very special in times like these.
In her two establishments on the Gaisberg in Salzburg, she now serves “Relief Patches” – cabbage patches in a pan for 7.90 euros. “That’s our anti-inflation plate,” laughs the Gaisbergspitz landlady.
Hard calculations: close to the price limit
The idea is well received by the guests, for the restaurateur it is a tour de force. “The price is extremely tight. Inflation also drives up food and personnel costs for us,” says Nicolussi-Kohlmayr. But: “We are a recreational destination. Everyone should be able to come to us. Nowhere else in Salzburg can you find a main course for less than twelve euros.”
They want the long-term anti-inflation plate on the menu. But the “relief plasters” could disappear from the Gaisberg in a few months. “If it gets too hot, it’s not exactly the perfect meal. We’ll think of something else,” says Nicolussi-Kohlmayr.
